TS2: Self Direction

DEFINITION & PURPOSE: Self Direction & independence are instrumental skills to develop in life. Demonstrating initiative is taught only shallowly in public school, but is practiced in a much deeper way with Big Picture. Self directed project based learning forces one to think about what they want to pursue in life and how to get there.

MY REFLECTION: Internal motivation has been something I’ve struggled with in the past, but I believe the skill has blossomed in me this year. Since I am encouraged to figure things out in my own way, I am able to take an uninteresting situation and make it into what I want from my school experience. For a vast majority of this year, I have not been bored. That is likely more than I can say about most other years of my school experience. I have also spent more time in the real world than ever before, allowing me to glean information from people on many different walks of life.
